Personality
The first thing about the Terminator is that he is an individual still very much in the process of learning emotions. He's got a CPU, a learning computer, which has only very recently been reset from read-only to read-write. This allows him to adapt and evolve his mind the more than he learns and interacts with people. At first, he is very stiff and formal, very much what one would expect from a robot. Even after as short a period of time as two days that he spends with the Connor's, he begins to develop more emotions, and learns to emote more like a human, such as learning to smile.
The most prominent aspect of the Terminator's personality is that he has learned the importance of compassion and love. At first, protecting John Connor is simply a job, what he has been programmed to do. He soon comes to develop a close relationship with him akin to a father and son. While he never reaches the same level with Sarah, they do develop a mutual respect and trust for one another, no mean feat considering her hatred and distrust of him initially. He comes to care for them so much that he's willing to sacrifice himself completely in order to keep them safe.
Tying into this is learning the value of human life. It takes him a while, but by the end of the movie, the Terminator has come to value all humans, not just the ones he's supposed to protect. This is shown in his complete lack of taking a single human life throughout the film, something that goes completely against his original programming. While he sees in humanity a chance that they will completely destroy themselves, he also see great potential in them to rise above what they are currently.
That being said, there's still a part of the Terminator that is a brutal machine. Part of it is just not picking up yet on more subtle emotions, so he relies on his strength and blunt force to accomplish what he needs. When asked to find a quarter for a payphone, he simply smashes it open. When told not kill anyone, he kneecaps people instead, stating, "They'll live." It's possible that this trait might diminish as he learns new ways of being able to accomplish goals, but it's likely it will never fully go away.
He's also very determined. Part of this is simple programming: when he has a goal, it's literally built into him to succeed at that. But there's more to it than that. He doesn't give up no matter what the odds are. When he's completely shut down towards the end of the film with quite a bit of damage done to him, he could have easily given up. Instead, his system finds an alternative power source so that he can continue the fight.
Finally, there are certain emotions he just flat-out hasn't developed yet. Sadness isn't really something he comprehends, for he's never had a reason to feel it, even when force to destroy himself for John's sake. Fear, likewise, is something that he doesn't understand. When asked if he fears anything by John, even death, he responds with a blunt no. Again, it's possible he might develop these the more he learns, especially since he has learned to care about people.
Special Abilities
The Terminator is a cyborg, a heavy metal exoskeleton covered by living flesh. This makes him much stronger, tougher, and more durable than a normal human being. He can take a lot of damage before needing to heal or repair himself. In canon, he's shot with bullets throughout the movie, only receiving superficial damage. His flesh can heal from damage if he's given long enough. It's not stated how long that would be or how long it would take. His strength is such that he can easily do things like tear locked doors open, smash a payphone open, and easily incapacitate a human being simply by grabbing them and refusing to let go. His metal exoskeleton is made of hyperalloy, a metal of unknown composition which keeps him from breaking or damaging very easily. Most of the damage to it in the film comes from either another Terminator damaging him or machinery with the crushing capability to manipulate metal. Extremely hot temperatures such as molten steel is hot enough to completely melt down his skeleton.
He'll be coming in from the movie and have quite a bit of damage to him that will put him at less than peak performance. His left leg has been damaged to the point where he's limping, he's missing most of his left arm below the elbow, he's got a large hole in his chest and damage to his main power source, and most of the human flesh was torn off on his right side.
As discussed in the FAQ, I'm fine with having his human outer self harder to regenerate and make it harder for him to repair himself in general.

[OOC]
Backtagging: Go right ahead!
Threadhopping: Sure, just be sure to communicate with everyone involved.
Fourthwalling: Yes, on a case-by-case basis.
[IC]
As a blanket notice, the Terminator doesn't really get a whole lot of body language, so for the most part, non-verbal cues and such go over his head unless they're spelled out for him.
Hugging this character: Go ahead. If he knows you well, he may respond in kind.
Kissing this character: Feel free to do so, but he won't know how to react.
Flirting with this character: Sure! It'll confuse him.
Fighting with this character: Go ahead. Know that he will fight back and that there will be consquences. He fights to win.
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): He's a Terminator, so he can take (and already has taken) a lot of damage. That being said, in Eachdraidh, he's been turned to about 70% human, so if a beating gets into breaking bones or dismemberment territory, let's talk first.
Killing this character: Talk to me first. I don't mind killing him off, but I want a good reason as to why.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Go ahead. He's an open book, mind-wise.
Warnings: His canon is a very violent one, including things like killing and a certain amount of body horror that comes with being a half-man, half-machine.
